The Great Wall Cultural Arts Festival presents the “Philippine Sampaguita Festival” on Saturday, July 21, 2007 from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Great Wall Shopping Mall. The Great Wall Shopping Mall is the only Asian Shopping mall in Washington State and Greater Puget Sound area. It is a place where all cultures unite in the Puget Sound. Celebrating and preserving Asian and Pacific cultural heritage is an integral mission of the Great Wall Mall since opening in 1999. There will be performances and entertainment of traditional Philippine dance, music, games, arts, and food. Selection of the 2007 Miss Philippine Sampaguita will also be presented at this event. The winner will represent the Great Wall Mall in various community events for better understanding of the Asian culture and opportunities for dialogue. Great raffle prizes donated by sponsors and stores will be given away. (Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Seniors and Filipino American Veterans of the community.) HistoryUnder the auspices of the Great Wall Management and Development, Inc., Great Wall Cultural Arts Festival was started in 2000 and formally organized in 2006. It’s objective is to continue to celebrate and share the uniqueness of the diverse communities in the Seattle Southside through their annual production of arts and cultural events. The Seattle Southside communities include Kent, Tukwila,Des Moines, SeaTac, Federal Way, Auburn, Renton, and Burien have a population of over 200,000 and its Asian population is continually growing. Many of the Asian immigrants lack the means to enjoy the cultural aspect that cities like Seattle and Bellevue has to offer. Great Wall Cultural Arts Festival is the stage for dozens of special events and festivals throughout the year. The Annual Asian Cultural Festival that is held in January is a joint venture with all the different cultures in Asia – China, Japan, Korea, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Far East India.
